City Departments
The Water Department provides clean drinking water to the community. Water is pumped from two underground wells, ranging from 508 to 538 feet deep, that draw water from the Mt. Simon aquifer. Each year, a water report is published and available in June to provide information on the city's water quality, source, and additives.
The Wastewater Department purifies the wastewater before it leaves the city plant.
The Parks Department maintains the two parks and jointly maintains a third with FLASC for the enjoyment of the citizens. Hansen-Keck Park provides playground equipment, a shelter house, tennis courts, and a ball diamond. Central Park provides playground equipment and a shelter house. The third park, located in the southern section of town, is a beautiful baseball/softball sports complex. The complex is the home of the Martin County West Mavericks baseball and softball programs. During the summer months, it hosts a variety of CER, Legion, and other local organizations’ games. Park reservations for the two shelter houses should be made at City Hall.
The Street Department maintains the city streets. Snow removal begins after approximately 3 inches of snow has fallen. Many times, this operation begins at four or five in the morning in order to ensure the roadways are open for travel to work. During the winter months, parking on residential streets is prohibited until snow removal for that street is finished.
During the summer months, street sweeping, storm jetting, and gravel grading take place. Often, the street department is operating large equipment. For your safety, please stay back and out of blind spots.
The Administration is located in City Hall at 102 Dugan Street South. Administration is responsible for water/sewer billing and payments; dog tags, rural burn permits, and zone permits are just some of the services available at City Hall.
